Fatima community Hospital is the realization of the dream cherished by the Catholic Diocese of Gorakhpur. It had its humble beginning in 1995 with 20 beds with provision of general medical facilities. Hospital stands for Christian values that have become the soul of hospital. Diocese of Gorakhpur under the aegis of Purvanchal Gramin Seva Samiti (PGSS) the diocesan social service society has a very strong community based programmes and development interventions in seven civil districts of eastern Uttar Pradesh targeting 17 million population. The community based health programmes paved the way for the birth of a referral hospital. The beneficiaries of community based programmes are referred to Fatima Hospital for further investigation and medical treatments.

Hospital has 10 satellite clinics in various parts of the diocese. These clinics are managed by Rev. Sisters and other religious staff. The network with the satellite clinics help Fatima hospital to be at the best of services to the unreachable living in rural areas. The hospital has various departments like Medicine, General Surgery, Gynaecology & Obstetrics, Ophthalmology, Community Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, Pediatrics, Cardiology, Cardio Thoracic Surgery, Critical Care Medicine, ENT, Dental, Casuality, Radiology & Imaging, Pharmacy, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Haematology, Histopathology, Clinical Pathology, Community health and department of Blood Transfusion.


• To provide effective and efficient medical services through its dedicated personnel, by keeping it as simple as possible, and within the reach of the local people, in an atmosphere where the people will feel at ease to avail themselves of the services offered by the hospital.
• To conduct general or specialty hospital, dispensaries, health centres, mobile clinics, etc in various parts of the country especially in rural areas, where medical aid is inadequate.
• To pay more attention to community health services involving disease control and disease eradication programmes.
• To conduct maternal and child welfare centres, community health centres, mental health centres, leprosy asylums, sanatorium for T.B. patients suffering from long term illness, institutions for the blind, deaf and dumb, houses for the rehabilitation and occupation of the disabled and mentally retarded, houses for the aged and the sick, and the destitute.
• To provide training and education for doctors, nurses, paramedical and community health worker.
• To train personnel for community health, social and welfare programmes and utilize them for the purpose of furthering education and research in health care fields as per the needs of times and places.
• To educate population on good health practices

A cursory analysis of the history of the hospital reveals that the central goal of the hospital has remained unchanged though there were expansions in the hospital. Of late the hospital has been making great strides in expanding its services by opening new departments like cardiology and offering the best services possible with the spirit of gospel values. The hospital’s central goal remains intact- ‘to provide the best quality medical care to the people irrespective of their caste, creed, religion, socio-economic background and paying capacity.

Stage 1995-2000: Birth Stage:

The hospital has a humble beginning with 20 beds and adopted a market entry strategy. Due to greater public demand for health facilities in the vicinity, the hospital enjoyed fame and success.

Stage 2001-2011: Growth and Expansion Stage:

The hospital acquired newer technologies and developed additional infrastructure to meet the growing demands from the community. It also adopted related diversified services in the field of nursing, community out reach programs, surgical and medical faces.
